Leadership styles come up a lot with my clients in our coaching conversations. We often do not reflect enough on our leadership styles and can feel that we must have one constant style.
As said by Daniel Goleman “The best leaders don’t know just one style of leadership – they’re skilled at several and have the flexibility to switch between styles as the circumstances dictate.”
He references that leadership styles are rooted in emotional intelligence and that when you understand the connection between emotional intelligence and contextual leadership, you can pause in the moment to evaluate which leadership style is needed to reframe the situation and find the best solution.
A coaching leadership style has really interested me over the last few years but recognising where this works. If we can use this style well it will start to attract, develop and retain the right people.
On the Your Leadership : Your Future leadership development programme we look at the importance of flexing your leadership style and how it can work for you.
